This ride is more than a challenge - it's a celebration of survival. Help me turn pain into purpose by supporting an organization such as DL Link that stand beside families in crisis. Together, we can be the reason someone else keeps going. I ride because I've lived through storms that threatened to break me and my sons. I'm a 57-year-old South African man of Italian descent, raised on the values of hard work, pride and faith. My body has been through its own war - multiple knee replacements, arm, back, ankle, hand, and all kind of other surgeries - but none of that compares to the battle we faced when one of my sons was diagnosed with Burkitt's lymphoma at just four years old. Stage 4. They gave him a year to live. We spent that year at the Johannesburg General Hospital's paediatric oncology unit, the best of its kind at the time. I watched my child bleed from his eyes and ears, his body wasting away before mine. Nothing prepares you for that kind of pain. Emotionally, psychologically, spiritually. Everything around me began to unravel - my work, my relationships, even my sense of self. My employer, once supportive, grew weary of my burdens. But the foundation we were part of stood by us. They gave us hope when everything else felt lost. My son survived. He's now 30. And this ride is for him. It's my way of saying thank you - for his life, for the grace we received, and for the strength we found in the darkest places. It's also my way of giving back. To honour the journey. To inspire others walking through fire. To show that faith, love and endurance can carry you through the imaginable. I ride because I believe in life. In God. In the power of showing up when it matters most.
